My experience of training, from ‘both sides of the fence’, is that it is most effective when the trainees have an interactive role in the sessions. Questions, examples of personal experience and discussion are actively encouraged to ensure that the sessions meet the needs of the groups and produce an enjoyable and productive experience.
Training is multi-sensory including power-point presentations, practical demonstrations and some ‘fun’ exercises. Theoretical information is reinforced by practical and contextual examples.
“During the training session, I realised that I had a Numeracy group of ‘inchworms’ and had been teaching them in my own ‘grasshopper’ style!!” Simon, FE Tutor
“The whole class were totally involved in the Epilepsy Awareness training. It promoted a greater understanding of, and interest in their classmate’s epilepsy.” Secondary school teacher.
“I’ve read the books and been to conferences but this time I felt that I could really put the information to practical use.” FE Tutor who is also dyslexic.
“I have noticed a great difference in my colleagues’ and Manager’s attitude to my difficulties since June came to speak to them.” Employee in a small manufacturing company.
