Frequently Asked Questions

 

Q:  How long will the assessment take?

A:  A full assessment will take approximately 2½ hours.

 

Q:  Do I have to bring any information about myself/my child?

A:  The assessment includes an interview during which past histories and current difficulties will be discussed. Medical reports, written concerns from school, college, university or employer and other documented reasons for referral help to gain a full picture of the nature of difficulties experienced.

 

Q: What happens after the assessment?

A:  You will receive a full written report within 2 weeks of the assessment.

 

Q: What does the report contain?

A:  The report contains the following:

  • Summary of the findings of the report
  • Background history
  • Full details of the results of individual assessments. Assessments are categorised under three headings – underlying ability (verbal and non-verbal reasoning skills), cognitive processing skills (auditory and visual memory and processing, phonological awareness, visual-motor skills, sequencing) and attainment (reading, writing, spelling, maths)
  • Conclusions and a profile of strengths and weaknesses
  • Recommendations for lifestyle, teaching and/or workplace strategies, study skills, Access Arrangements for Examinations, reasonable adjustments, further reading and other sources of information where applicable.
  • Table of assessment results

Q:Can I, my employer/college/my child's school/local authority contact you to discuss the report?

A: I will be happy to discuss the report and answer any questions although I will need the permission of the person for whom the report has been written or his/her parent as the information in the report is confidential
